About Me

My name is Meredith Rhodes and I’m a Madison, WI based Health Coach who is strongly informed by ancestral health. Here is my story.

In my mid-30’s, I noticed my weight creeping up on me.  It seemed that my standard exercise routine and diet were no longer a good weight maintenance strategy.  So I did what any woman in my position might do – I stepped it up at the gym.  After 2 months of countless hour-long sessions on the elliptical, my efforts were rewarded with zero movement on the scale and severe hunger & exhaustion.

So, I figured that if I was to shake this extra weight, I needed to change my diet, since exercise alone didn’t do the trick for me.  I joined Weight Watchers – which came highly recommended by my friends and family.  My efforts over the course of the next 6 months rewarded me with ~20-25 pounds lost, and also a neurotic compulsion to record every ounce of food that passed my lips, fatigue, hair loss, an extra heartbeat, anxiety…

It was then that I realized that skinny does not equal healthy.

I routinely visited my doctor with stories of my heart fluttering and my hair falling out. Alas, she could not medically confirm that I was unhealthy – so she referred me to a psychiatrist.  Awesome.

Personally, the hair loss scared me the most – I went to several doctors who tested my iron, my hormones, my thyroid… everything looked perfect to them.  I was told it was because I lost weight, my body was re-equilibrating.

2016-05-19 11.25.29-1I knew something wasn’t right.

I am a scientist, and as such, I began to dive into the current research about nutrition.  My relationship with food began to drastically change.

I now view food as ‘medicine’.

Within a year, I was able to heal my body with food.  I have learned that our genes are not a death sentence, that we have more control over our health and longevity than we were taught to believe. This is so powerful, so hopeful.

I now effortlessly maintain my weight.

I have weaned myself from 2 prescription medications.

I have a full head of hair, and a cleaner bathroom sink 😉

I feel a sense of power and purpose.

I am no longer anxious.

My heart beats the way it was intended to.

I no longer have keratosis pilaris (or, bumpy arm-backs, as I used to call it).

I am no longer ravenously hungry, and can often skip a meal.

My hormones are now closer to balance, as evidenced by the reappearance of my period.

I have energy and drive to exercise.

And I’m passionate about sharing this message.

I only wish that I had realized the healing nature of food when I was attempting to have babies.  I’m certain that my fertility issues would have been non-issues if I was nourishing myself like I am today.  But I’m thankful of course, that my family will benefit, from this day forward.

Through my own self-experimentation, I found a passion for nutrition and fitness. I am certified through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as a Holistic Health Coach as well as through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.  Furthermore – I have a PhD in Geology and have working knowledge of evolutionary theory.   Drawing on this base, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
